LABELLING

Labelling of products is very sensitive issue regarding complexity, growing awareness of consumers and increased need for consumer's safety. Every product must have a label which is compliant  with the relevant regulations.

Keeping up with this changing legislation is a constant struggle and planning ahead for forthcoming changes is the key to success.

Our aim is to get safe products on the market that fully comply with the legislations and safety standards.

Importance of labelling

The food sector is very rigorously regulated sector both in EU and in the region.

Although, the general idea and the aim is to reach a working level of harmonisation among Member States, this is far from being the case. Even in the most harmonised cases, national differences in law enforcement are a reality. Knowing which requirements apply to each product and how to comply most effectively in the various countries is essential for food companies.

NOVELTIES IN FOOD LABELLING

EU Regulation 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers

establishes the legal framework for the provision of food information provided to consumers by food business operators. It sets down the general principles, responsibilities as well as requirements aimed at achieving clear, comprehensible and legible labelling of foods.

It consolidates food labelling and nutrition labelling regulations.

It is one of the biggest changes in food labelling and will affect both manufacturers and retailers.

Some of the novelties are:

Better legibility i.e. Minimum font size

Mandatory allergen labelling for packed and pre-packed food

Country of origin labelling

Mandatory nutrition labelling

13.12.2014. Regulation 1169/2011 will come into force

13.12.2016. mandatory nutrition labelling will come into force

EU Regulation 1924/2006 provides for a list of authorised health claims. Also nutrition claims such as “source of fibre” and “reduced sugars” are regulated in the EU, ensuring that the consumer is not misled.

We have years of experience in dealing with labelling issues. We can guide you through the process of label compliance from the beginning of the process to the very end of Artwork design.
